St. Kitts Cruise Port Welcomes Star of the Seas and Celebrity Beyond as Island Passes One Million Passengers

Basseterre, St. Kitts. 20 August 2026
Two Big Ships, One Very Full Day
Thursday morning at Port Zante, two of the newest ships in the Caribbean came in together.
Star of the Seas and Celebrity Beyond both berthed on 20 August, and between them they brought about 10,450 people ashore in a single day. Star of the Seas accounted for roughly 7,035 of them. Celebrity Beyond brought about 3,415. If you have never seen two ships that size sitting side by side against a green mountain and a blue harbour, it is worth the walk down the pier just for the view.
Double ship days are becoming ordinary here. If you want to know what is coming in on the day of your call, the St. Kitts cruise ship schedule is updated with arrival and departure times for every vessel, and it is worth a look before you plan your morning.
Ten thousand people arriving at once sounds like it should be chaos. It is not. That is the part we are proudest of. The port is built to take it, both piers can hold ships of that class comfortably, and the flow from gangway to plaza is short and clear. You come off the ship and you are already here. No shuttle, no long transfer, no standing in a hot car park waiting for something to happen.
What Is Waiting at the Top of the Pier
From there it opens up fast. The shops and duty free are right in front of you, and the Port Zante business directory will tell you who is trading, what they sell and where to find them before you even step off. The marina is a few minutes on. Basseterre proper begins at the top of the plaza, and Independence Square, the old stone buildings on Fort Street, somewhere cold to drink and somewhere good to eat are all within an easy walk.
If you would rather go further out, the taxi drivers and tour operators are waiting at the top of the walkway, and they will have you on your way to Brimstone Hill, or the beaches on the south peninsula, or the monkeys, in about ten minutes. Everybody at that end of the port knows the island, knows the ship times, and will get you back before the last call. Our full St. Kitts cruise port guide covers the practical side of a day ashore, from where to find the restrooms to how the ferry to Nevis works.
That is what people tend to say about St. Kitts once they have been. It is easy. You are not spending half the day in transit trying to reach the good part. The good part starts at the pier.
Not Only Cruise Ships
The cruise piers get the attention, but the harbour works for smaller vessels too. Port Zante Marina sits inside the same complex, a short walk from the plaza, with berthing, fuel, shore power, on site clearance and round the clock security. Crews step off the dock and straight into the capital, which is why so many boats moving through the Leewards use us as their stop between Antigua and St. Martin. If you are planning a passage rather than a port call, our guide to choosing a Caribbean marina explains where St. Kitts sits on that route.
A Million Passengers, and Counting
Remember this was August, our supposed quiet season. Two ships of that size on an ordinary Thursday in the off season says something about where this island now sits in the Caribbean. The Federation has just passed a million cruise passengers for the period, 1,002,282 to be exact, and nearly all of them came through this port.
A million people, and most of them got their first look at St. Kitts standing right here on this pavement. We think about that a lot. It is why the grounds are swept before the first gangway drops and why our officers are in position before anybody steps off. You will never notice any of it, which is the whole idea.
Six hours or six days, we want the first ten minutes to be good ones. The ships are getting bigger, the season is about to get busier, and there is a lot more of this island than one port call can hold.
Come see us.
